My first Volca Sample pack was a lot of fun to put together, but the Sample allows you to adjust your sounds pretty heavily, so I found that I was picking out the few hits I liked the most, adjusting them where necessary, and reusing them over and over again. Meanwhile, I wanted a wider range of sounds at my disposal in this box, so I pruned the old list significantly and arrived at an updated sample selection:
- 0-7 Kick Drums (DR 660, 808, Yamaha RY-30, acoustic?)
- 8-9 Rim Shots (acoustic?)
- 10-15 Snare Drum (DR660 all except 15=808)
- 16-18 Clap (808, DR660, 707)
- 19 Snap (Yamaha RY-30)
- 20-22 808 Hats
- 23-25 DR660 Hats
- 26-27 707 Hats

Sources
None of these samples were recorded by me. They were kindly provided by the following sources:
- LEGOWELT OFFICIAL WEBSITE – All the synth sounds and the great DR660 sounds that dominate slots 0-49 are courtesy of this pillar of the community.
- 66 Drum Machine Sample Pack. Casio, Linn Drum, Korg, AKAI, ROLAND, BOSS, YAMAHA. : synthesizers – The majority of the other drum hits in slots 0-49 came from Redditor artfart’s post.
- SampleSwap.org – All the vocal hits and a few of the drum kit hits came from here, most notably all of the tabla sounds.
- Legend of Zelda sound effects by HelpTheWretched – The remaining Ocarina of Time sounds came from here.
Notes
I really like the tabla kit in slots 50-59. It’s fun to assign a sample to each slot and see what kind of groove I can piece together. SampleSwap had 50-something tabla sounds available, but there were so many similar-sounding ones that it didn’t make a lot of sense to put more than 10 slots here. I did try putting the whole kit on the Sample, but trying to pick out the ten “perfect” sounds proved to be overwhelming, so I removed that burden from myself and only provided enough to fill a sample set.
I also really love the resonant rim shot in slot 8, which was in my first sample pack as well, but for the life of me I cannot figure out where I got it from. I just remember being particularly dissatisfied with the rim shots available to me in the drum machine collection and finding something more to my liking. I use this one all the time, so mission accomplished – but not knowing where I got it is why I’m including my sources this time. Mea culpa.
