Software for the Synthstrom Deluge: A Tool to Identify and Remove Unused Recordings

Posted on January 26, 2020February 3, 2020

The Deluge by Synthstrom Audible is a remarkable music workstation that makes a number of things easy, one of which is acting as a versatile sampler. However, I’ve seen other users state concerns about a problem that I also recently started experiencing: there’s not an easy way to identify which ( more… )

Volca Sample Pack: Drum Machines, Tabla, Vocal Hits, Synths, and More

Posted on October 6, 2019February 17, 2020

My first Volca Sample pack was a lot of fun to put together, but the Sample allows you to adjust your sounds pretty heavily, so I found that I was picking out the few hits I liked the most, adjusting them where necessary, and reusing them over and over again. ( more… )

A 2019 of Live Performances, Q2

Posted on July 24, 2019July 25, 2019

Sara and I attended a lot of great events this last quarter, and not all of them were music-related. I don’t have as much time as I’d like to describe everything in excruciating detail, but July is already almost over, so I’m just going to bang this one out. April ( more… )

of Montreal in Tallahassee Again – April 26, 2019

Posted on April 29, 2019April 30, 2019

of Montreal put on a crazy show last weekend, but instead of writing a full report about it, I decided to just compile a little concert film of the best moments – at least until my battery cut out during the last song, directly before the four encore tunes, which ( more… )

A 2019 of Live Music and Theater, Q1

Posted on April 2, 2019April 30, 2019

For 2018, I wrote a post on tons of live music Sara, my wife, and I saw during the year. It took a long time and much of it was not fresh in my mind, so for value, I decided to break down 2019 into parts. It has definitely been ( more… )

STRFKR Absolutely Crushed It in Gainesville

Posted on March 19, 2019September 24, 2019

I’ve had a lot of “current favorite” bands in my life, but they have rarely coincided with times I’m actively going to shows and when those bands are actively playing. I got to see Elliott Smith in 2001 and Joanna Newsom in 2010 and would have classified each as my ( more… )

Volca Sample: Vosyr Sample Pack with Drums, Super Mario Bros 3, and Ocarina of Time

Posted on January 24, 2019January 29, 2019

I acquired a Korg Volca Sample recently and have been having a ton of fun. However, the factory samples just weren’t doing it for me – frankly, I didn’t like them at all. I tried a number of sample packs that Volca fans have posted online, and I found some ( more… )

A 2018 of Live Music in Review

Posted on January 10, 2019January 29, 2019

I had the vast pleasure to see of Montreal play live in December 2017. It was an extraordinary show and it reinvigorated my love for live music in a big way, so I vowed to see more concerts in 2018. My wife, Sara, was all too happy to join me ( more… )

Savannah Stopover with a Kid: A Parent’s Guide and Review

Posted on March 12, 2018January 25, 2019

My son loves music, but he’s like, a kid, so we haven’t had a chance to take him to very many shows. When we saw that the Savannah Stopover Music Festival had a few all-ages venues and was free admission for kids under 12, we were like, “Hey, let’s see how this goes.” ( more… )

The Judah Experience: Judah & the Lion with Tall Heights and Colony House – Tallahassee, Florida – March 3, 2018

Posted on March 5, 2018January 25, 2019

The Tallahassee community got a treat this past weekend with a visit by genre-blenders extraordinaire Judah & the Lion. On the group’s Going to Mars Tour, playing at The Moon nightclub seemed like a natural fit, and the packed, enthusiastic house obviously agreed. Tall Heights With two supporting groups, there was ( more… )
